About this Episode
"A creation is anything where the end product has properties that do not come from the materials it is made from."
David is joined in studio by Joseph Hubbard of Creation Research UK to build a simple working definition of design, then test it on the world around us. They start with a guitar, a musical object made entirely out of non musical wood, and a key that flashes SOS in Morse code, showing that the information in a code never lives in the materials carrying it. From there they move to DNA, a four dimensional code that repairs, replicates, and protects itself, which raises a serious problem for a process supposedly driven by mutations.
Joseph also brings a bunch of plastic flowers to make the point that nobody doubts the fake one was designed, while the living one that feeds bees, cleans itself, and grows back a torn petal is credited to time and chance. They close with a lesson Joseph runs with students: work out everything required to make one slice of toast and you end up needing an entire functioning universe. As Joseph puts it, we are not dealing with clever flowers, we are dealing with a clever Creator, just as Romans 1:20 says.
